Summative Assessment: 6.10.16


Your first summative assessment of the year will be next Thursday (6th October).
You will recieve a mark for category C (33%) and category D (33%)
You will be marked on your use of the following:

–Adjectives and adverbs used to express emotions (from the Student Book)
–Crime and gang vocabulary from On the Sidewalk Bleeding
–Conditionals (all four! We’ll be revising these today)
–A variety of past tenses (past simple, past continuous, past perfect) *We’ll be looking at these more closely over the next week
–Phrasal verbs (from a Quizlet list that we’ll be looking at soon)

–Persuasive language devices (we’ll spend a short time revising these also)

Recapping Conditionals


You should all be familiar with conditionals (you studied them in Year 8), but just in case you've forgotten about them, the table below should help you to remember...


Now that you've had chance to study the above table, you should write down the grammatical structure of each of the four conditionals in your notebook. Once you've done that, spend about twenty minutes testing your knowledge of conditionals by clicking on some of the links below.

*Don't forget: You will be expected to use ALL FOUR conditionals accurately in your assessment next week.

On the Sidewalk Bleeding: In a character's shoes


You will be completing the following task:
What would you have done if you had walked past Andy lying there bleeding? 
You should:
-  Aim to write about 100 words.
-  Try to use as many conditional structures as possible. Think about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd conditionals we studied last year.
-  Use a number of opinion adjectives. You should revise this aspect via the following link before you start writing:

Create a Symbaloo



Go to:

http://www.symbaloo.com/

Create an account

1.                  In the top hand corner put it in 'English (UK)'
2.                  Click on 'Create Free Account'
3.                  Enter your details and click 'Create Account'

Create a tile for your symbaloo
1.                  Click on the '+' symbol in the middle of an empty box
2.                  Click on an empty tile
3.                  Click on 'Create a tile'
4.                  Enter http://www.wordreference.com/ in the box called 'Add the address of the website'
5.                  Click on 'Save'
6.                  Note: In order to make your Symbaloo page more visually appealing, you can add an image that corresponds to your weblink. At the bottom of the ‘Edit tile’ box, you can either select ‘Choose icon’ or ‘Upload an image’. For some weblinks, Symbaloo will have images that you can select. However, you can also upload your own saved image.

Create more tiles for your symbaloo. Use all the following websites to start off with.
There will be other weblinks that we will add to your Symbaloo page throughout the year.
Once you have create a number Symbaloo links, you should save Symbaloo as your homepage. You do this by following these steps:
 Click on the menu button to the right of the browser  
 Select ‘Settings’
              Underneath the heading ‘On startup’, click ‘Set pages’
 In the box to the right  of ‘Add new page’, type http://www.symbaloo.com
 Finally, click ‘Ok’
 Once you restart your computer, Symbaloo should be saved as your internet homepage
